Afridi Urges Naqvi To Choose Between PCB And Interior Ministry

Shahid Afridi has publicly urged Mohsin Naqvi to step down from one of his major roles to avoid divided attention.

He argued that managing both the PCB chairmanship and the Interior Ministry undermines effective leadership.

Afridi appealed during a meeting with Army Chief General Asim Munir in Rawalpindi, paying condolences over personal loss.

He told Naqvi that handling two enormously demanding jobs simultaneously prevents full dedication and clarity.

Afridi said, “You should choose between the Interior Ministry and the PCB” to best serve Pakistan’s interests.

He insisted that concentrating on a single responsibility would allow better governance and decision‑making.

He also critiqued Naqvi’s advisers, calling them unreliable and ill‑equipped to support cricket matters.

Afridi pointed out Naqvi frequently admits he lacks cricketing experience and must depend on capable counsel.

He stressed that the PCB role is a full‑time demand and cannot be balanced with heavy ministerial duties.

Afridi warned that juggling two top positions would likely cause both to suffer from neglect.

He told the Army Chief that cricket needs focused, undistracted leadership to regain public confidence.

Afridi’s comments come amid mounting criticism after Pakistan failed in recent tournaments.

Analysts say Naqvi’s multiple roles draw scrutiny for diluting accountability across sports and the state.

Earlier, Naqvi also became Asian Cricket Council President, adding yet another major responsibility.

Afridi acknowledged Naqvi’s passion for reform but cautioned that good intentions alone are insufficient.

He concluded that stepping away from one office would strengthen both his effectiveness and credibility.
