A scintillating innings from Abhishek Sharma guided Sunrisers Hyderabad to a dominant 47-run victory against Delhi Capitals in Match 31 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Opening the batting, Abhishek delivered a masterclass in pacing an innings, remaining unbeaten on 135 off 68 deliveries. He brought up his half-century at a brisk rate and later converted it into a century with authority, taking firm control as the innings progressed. His performance also pushed him ahead in the race for the Orange Cap, underlining his excellent form this season.
Hyderabad began cautiously but soon accelerated. Nitish Rana briefly tightened things with his off-spin early on, though the move quickly unravelled.
Once the batters settled, Hyderabad counterattacked decisively, including a heavy over that shifted momentum firmly in their favour.
Abhishek found strong support from Travis Head, with the pair building a fluent opening stand. Head initially measured, later increased his scoring rate before falling for 37.
Despite his dismissal, Hyderabad’s scoring did not slow.
Ishan Kishan added quick runs before being run out, paving the way for Heinrich Klaasen to finish the innings in explosive fashion.
Klaasen’s rapid 37 off 13 balls ensured the total surged past 240, leaving Delhi with a daunting chase.
Delhi’s bowlers struggled to find answers on a surface that offered little assistance. Even as conditions appeared suitable for reverse swing, the seam attack failed to exploit it, allowing Hyderabad’s batters to dominate throughout the middle overs.
In response, Delhi showed glimpses of resistance but never truly threatened the target.
Rana led the scoring with a solid 57, while Sameer Rizvi contributed 41. Lapses in the field and ineffective bowling rotations earlier in the match proved costly.
Hyderabad’s bowlers ensured control during the chase, with key contributions helping restrict Delhi to 195/9.
The result marked Hyderabad’s third consecutive win, lifting them to third place in the standings, while Delhi were left to rue missed opportunities.
