A Crucial Dance For Samson As India Take On New Zealand In Vizag

India and New Zealand meet in the fourth T20 International of the ongoing series at the ACA-VDCA Stadium today. With India already leading the five-match series 3-0, the hosts will look to extend their winning streak and fine-tune combinations ahead of the looming ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

India’s strong performance so far has been built on explosive hitting and disciplined bowling. Suryakumar Yadav has been the series’s leading run-getter with 171 runs at a striking rate of over 200, including two half-centuries, underlining his return to top form.

Abhishek Sharma has been among the most destructive batsmen, scoring 152 runs at a remarkable strike rate above 270, with two quick fifties that have put New Zealand on the back foot.

Another Indian standout has been Ishan Kishan, who has been in red-hot form in the series.

In the absence of Tilak Varma due to injury, Kishan grabbed his opportunity with a blistering 76 off 32 balls in the second T20I and backed it up with a quick 28 in the third, making a strong case for his spot in the top order. His current series strike rate has hovered around the 220 mark, making him one of India’s key batting threats heading into today’s clash.

Pressure on Sanju Samson

All eyes will be on Sanju Samson, who heads into today’s game under significant pressure. The Kerala opener has scored just 16 runs across three innings, raising questions about his place in India’s T20 World Cup playing XI and fuelling debate over whether the team should hand Ishan Kishan a permanent opening role once Tilak returns.

India’s bowling unit, led by veteran Jasprit Bumrah, comes in with confidence after a key performance in Guwahati, where he dismantled the Kiwi lineup with figures of 3/17. Spinner Ravi Bishnoi has also been effective, troubling the visitors with variations that led to vital breakthroughs.

Conditions in Vizag are likely to favour batting once again, and the Indian line-up could post a high score if it gets off to a strong start. With dew expected later in the evening, both teams will look to adapt their strategies carefully, especially in the chase.

For India, the fourth T20I offers a platform to reinforce confidence before the World Cup, test bench strength, and give players like Samson a final chance to silence critics.

The New Zealand side, meanwhile, will be chasing their first win of the series with the likes of Jimmy Neesham and Lockie Ferguson returning in the squad for the remaining two T20Is.

They will seek to stem India’s dominance with tactical resistance and moments of individual brilliance.
