1st T20I: India Look To Extend Asian Games Momentum Against West Indies

India will look to carry their Asian Games gold-medal momentum into the five-match T20I series against West Indies when the teams meet at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

The visitors, however, arrive with renewed confidence after chasing 352 in New Chandigarh in the final ODI. Captain Shai Hope smashed an unbeaten 162 to guide West Indies to their highest successful ODI chase against India.

Shreyas Iyer will lead India, with Tilak Varma serving as his deputy. Iyer recently guided India to Asian Games gold after a 19-run victory over Pakistan in the final at Nisshin, Japan.

India have dominated the T20I rivalry, leading West Indies 20-10 in 31 matches. They have also won nine of their 11 T20Is against the Caribbean side at home.

West Indies will rely on Hope’s batting form and the attacking abilities of players such as Keemo Paul. Paul scored 44 from 35 balls in the third ODI and can contribute with both bat and ball.

Wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo has joined the squad as cover for Jewel Andrew, who suffered a finger injury during the third ODI.

The Ekana surface generally supports batting but can assist spinners as the ball gets older, making control during the middle overs crucial.

The remaining matches will take place in Ranchi on October 9, Indore on October 11, Hyderabad on October 14 and Bengaluru on October 17. All five matches are scheduled to begin at 7 pm IST.

When: Tuesday, October 6
