Indian-Origin Man Fatally Injured in Altercation in US, Fifth Case of Indian American Death in 2024

A 41-year-old Indian-origin man died in the United States after he was allegedly hit on his head during an altercation. According to a police report, the incident happened at nearly 2 am (US local time) on February 2, outside a restaurant in downtown Washington, making it the fifth case of an Indian American killed in the US this year.

US State Department Condemns Electoral Restrictions and Violence in Pakistani Elections

US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller says, "We commend Pakistani poll workers, civil society, journalists and election observers for their work to protect and uphold Pakistan's democratic and electoral institutions...We join credible international and local election observers in their assessment that these elections included undue restrictions on freedoms of expression, association, and peaceful assembly. We condemn electoral violence, restrictions on the exercise of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including attacks on media workers and restrictions on access to the internet and telecommunication services, and are concerned about allegations of interference in the electoral process. Claims of interference or fraud should be fully investigated."
