An advance of the great ‘Pran Pratishtha’ celebration on January 22, the face of the idol of Lord Ram was unveiled yesterday. Arun Yogiraj, a sculptor from Mysuru, created the 51-inch idol. Days before the major consecration event, on Thursday, the new idol of Lord Ram was installed inside the Ram Janmabhoomi shrine in Ayodhya. The 5-year-old Ram Lalla’s idol is carved of black stone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present during the ‘Pran Pratishtha’, or consecration ceremony on January 22. The temple is scheduled to open for the public the following day. To imbue an idol with divine consciousness is known as “Pran Pratishtha,” and it is a prerequisite for any idol to be worshipped in a temple. The Maharashtra government announced on Friday that January 22 would be a public holiday in honor the Ram temple’s consecration ceremony.
