MCD Mayor Election
Delhi Mayor Election: Ahead of the Delhi’s Mayoral Polls, the Councilors of Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party Friday came to blows inside the House. The house for Mayor election has been adjourned till further notification.
BJP Vs AAP At The House
A Clash broke out over who would take oath first, with the AAP blaming the BJP for ensuring a departure from procedural norms. The ruckus started after presiding officer Satya Sharma asked BJP-appointed Alderman Manoj Kumar to take oath first.
The Aam Aadmi Party started protesting and the Leader of the House Mukesh Goel said it was for the first time in the history of 25 years of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls that the winning party was being sidelined and the runner-up BJP was being asked to take oath first.
BJP leader Satya Sharma, the presiding officer announced by the Lt Governor, took oath and after that the process of taking oath of 10 councilors nominated by LG started, Aam Aadmi Party workers started raising slogans.
Aam Aadmi Party workers said that the first elected councilors should be sworn in. After this, slogans started being raised from the side of BJP councilors as well. Slogans and ruckus turned into a fight in no time. After pushing and shoving, the chairs went to the floor. Due to this uproar, voting could not start in the House.
Physical clash situation errupted
On the other hand, the marshals and security officers got involved in protecting the councilors present in the house from each other. The Aam Aadmi Party alleges that this has never happened before. First of all, the nominated councilors have been sworn in. AAP and BJP councilors clashed in MCD Sadan before the mayoral election regarding this matter.
While slamming AAP, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said, “They (AAP) are chaotic people and their job is to spread chaos. When they have the numbers then what are they afraid of. This is bullying. This can be seen by their MPs in the Rajya Sabha as well and the same is happening here.”
MCD House Adjourned
Ahead of the tussle, Presiding officer Satya Sharma said, “I have appealed several times for smooth functioning of the House but the ruckus continues. If he sits quietly, then we are ready to administer the oath. If these people do not sit peacefully, then we will wait for the next date.” MCD House has been adjourned due to ruckus between AAP and BJP councilors.
