With Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal still in jail, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has taken charge of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi and Haryana.
Sisodia, who recently secured bail from the Supreme Court in corruption and money laundering cases linked to the Delhi liquor policy, walked out of Tihar Jail on Friday after 17 months. His release has energized the AAP, which has faced challenges since Kejriwal’s imprisonment in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.
Today, Sisodia will hold a meeting with senior AAP members at his residence at 6 p.m. The party plans to contest all 90 seats in the Haryana assembly elections scheduled for later this year, while Delhi’s 70 assembly seats are expected to go to polls in early 2025.
Sisodia, a key figure in AAP since its inception, played a crucial role in shaping Delhi’s governance and revolutionizing its education system. Before resigning from the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023, he managed 18 portfolios, including education, finance, and women and child development. His resignation came two days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him over alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22.
