Haryana BJP Faces Rebellion After Announcing First List Of 67 Candidates

On Thursday, many BJP functionaries resigned after the party announced its first list of 67 candidates for the October 5 Haryana Assembly elections. This includes a sitting minister, legislators, former ministers, and party leaders. Power Minister Ranjit Chautala resigned from his ministerial role and the BJP. He announced his decision in Rania, stating he will run as an Independent from Rania after rejecting a BJP ticket for Dabwali.

Reactions and Rebel Resignations

Sunita Duggal, former MP from Sirsa, received a ticket for Ratia despite being denied re-nomination for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Former Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar lost to Congress veteran Kumari Selja.

Lakshman Dass Napa, BJP legislator from Ratia (SC), resigned after being denied a ticket. He may join Congress. Karan Dev Kamboj, a key OBC leader, also resigned after being denied a ticket from Indri. He criticized the BJP’s change in culture.

Kavita Jain, former minister, demanded a change of candidate for Sonipat and threatened to leave the party if her request was not met. She accused senior leaders of betrayal.

In Safidon, former MLA Bachan Singh Arya resigned after JJP rebel Ram Kumar Gautam received the ticket. Arya will run as an Independent.

Controversies and New Candidates

Sunil Sangwan, who granted multiple paroles to rape convict Ram Rahim, received a BJP ticket, sparking concerns about the party’s stance on women’s safety.

Supporters of former minister Savitri Jindal urged her to run as an Independent after the BJP retained Health Minister Kamal Gupta as its candidate. Jindal sought a ticket from Hisar.
