Vinesh Phogat
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification from the Paris 2024 Olympics on Wednesday. This decision ends her bid for a shared silver medal in the women’s 50kg wrestling category.
Phogat, who was disqualified for weighing 100 grams over the permissible limit during the weigh-in on August 7, filed the appeal hoping to retain her spot on the podium. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed that the CAS’s ad-hoc division dismissed her appeal, effectively stripping her of a chance at a medal.
Phogat made history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final, securing at least a silver medal. However, her disqualification under United World Wrestling (UWW) rules voided all her previous victories in the competition.
