The second day of Chhath Puja is called Kharna. Mothers observing fast on this day prepare Rasiyav and Roti to offer to Chhathi Maiya and Sun God. This Prasad is made with cleanliness and purity as it has to be offered to Chatti Maiya. For making Prasad, everything from the ingredients to the utensils and stove should be pure and sacred.
Rasiyav is made in two ways, one from sugarcane juice and the other from jaggery. Rasiyav has the property of energizing the body, due to which the devotee is able to keep the fast for 36 hours. Without any delay, let us know these two methods of making Rasiyav.
To make Rasiyav, clean and purify everything. Take milk in a vessel on a clean stove to heat it. Wash and soak the rice in clean water for 3-4 hours before adding it. When the milk boils, add rice to it and let it cook. Cook Rasiyav rice and milk on low flame. In another vessel give sugarcane juice a boil. When the sugarcane juice boils, slowly add it to the milk and rice and keep stirring with a ladle. Cook the mixture of milk, rice and sugarcane juice on low flame until it thickens. After it becomes thick, the prasad is ready.
To make Jaggery Rasiyav, you have to use two liters of milk, 500 grams of rice and 150 grams of jaggery. First keep the milk on a clean stove to heat it. Soak the rice for two-three hours and after soaking, break the rice finely and mix it in milk and let it cook on low flame. When milk and rice are cooked well, add jaggery and mawa to it and cook until it thickens well. Rasiyav made of jaggery is ready, it can be used for Kharna puja.
