Love, Marriage & Life Has No Bar For Gender

Everything’s Fair In Love Says Rajasthan Teacher Who Changes Gender to Wed

Meera, a Deeg native, worked as a physical education teacher at Government Secondary School in Nagla. One of her classmates, Kalpana, went to the same school.

They stayed close friends for two years. Later in the year, Meera (Aarav) joyously proposed to Kalpana, and she agreed.

Formerly known as Meera Kuntal, Aarav now identifies as a man.

On Sunday, a teacher in Rajasthan who had undergone gender transition married a student.

Meera, a physical education instructor in Bharatpur, had a sex change treatment in order to wed Kalpana Fouzdar.

Reporters were told by Meera, who now is  Aarav Kuntal, that she had changed her gender because “everyone is equal in love.”

In the school’s physical education lessons, Meera first encountered Kalpana. In addition to apparently travelling to Dubai for an international kabaddi competition in January, Kalpana participated in kabaddi at the state level.

Aarav said he fell in love with Kalpana during their interactions on the school playground but that he had always wanted to be a boy. “I was born a girl but I always thought I was a boy. I always wished to undergo surgery to change my gender. I had my first surgery in December 2019,” he said.

Kalpana, the bride, said she had been in love with Aarav for long and would have married him even if he had not undergone the surgery.

“I loved him from the start. Even if he had not done this surgery, I would have married him. I went with him for the surgery,” Kalpana said.

Their wedding, although unconventional and still rare in India, has been accepted by their parents.
