According to the newly released Smarter Summer Report by travel platform Skyscanner, Indian travellers are approaching the 2025 summer season with a ‘maximiser’ mindset—focused on securing richer, more rewarding travel experiences without overspending.
A striking 96% of respondents said they plan to travel as much or more than they did last year, with 95% intent on maximising their summer holidays.
Indian tourists are moving away from rigid travel schedules. The report highlights that 58% plan to explore new destinations, while 51% aim to cover multiple places in a single trip—reflecting a growing appetite for adventurous and meaningful travel.
To make their money stretch further, travellers are now considering alternative destinations, off-peak dates, and less conventional routes to avoid crowds and rising prices.
An increasing number of Indian travellers are prioritising serenity over tourist hotspots.
Over 52% prefer quieter, less crowded locations, and 50% are open to travelling during shoulder seasons, when costs are lower and crowds are thinner.

Sunday emerges as the cheapest day to fly, and the week of 25 August offers some of the best seasonal deals, according to Skyscanner.
Despite high interest in summer travel, 49% of Indian travellers have not yet booked their holidays, primarily due to uncertainty about destinations.
To help overcome this hesitation, Skyscanner’s report includes practical tips, suggestions for affordable travel windows, and lesser-known destination ideas.
Mohit Joshi, Travel and Destinations Expert at Skyscanner, commented: “Indians want value-packed, flexible trips but often struggle with when and where to go. Our report cuts through the confusion, helping travellers make confident choices and enjoy summer adventures without overspending.”
As heat grips much of India, half of all travellers are targeting cooler, mountain destinations, leading to a boom in demand for hill stations and high-altitude retreats.
To support this trend, Skyscanner has partnered with The Land of Wanderlust to launch the ‘Ultimate Backpacker’s Guide’, packed with useful advice for adventure-seekers heading into the hills.
Sherwin Rebello, Founder of The Land of Wanderlust, explained, “More travellers seek slower, experience-rich trips in the mountains — from backpackers and digital nomads to families and couples. Social media inspires many, but comfort and local experiences in peaceful settings are increasingly in demand.”
