The Supreme Court has expressed concern over the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike demanding Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other issues. A bench comprising Justice Suryakant and Justice N Kotishwar Singh is hearing the case. During the proceedings, the court was informed that Dallewal’s health condition had worsened.
The court has directed the Punjab state government to submit medical reports for the last 15 days to assess Dallewal’s condition. The case will be heard again on January 22. The state government informed the court that the High Power Committee, which was set up by the Supreme Court, had recently met with the farmers involved in the protests.

In response, the court decided to send all relevant reports to AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) for further evaluation. It instructed the director of AIIMS to consult medical experts to verify the claims made by the state regarding Dallewal’s health.
Punjab Government Claims Health Improvement
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Punjab government, argued that Dallewal’s health was improving. He emphasized that the farmer leader’s platelet count had shown improvement. The court, however, remained cautious and ordered the Chief Secretary of Punjab to present every report related to Dallewal’s health in court. The court also noted that the farmer leader now has access to medical facilities just 10 meters away from his location.
When asked about Dallewal’s progress, Sibal assured the court that his parameters were improving and that he had consented to a blood test. Suryakant, however, raised concerns about the accuracy of these claims, prompting further scrutiny.
High Power Committee Engages with Farmers
During the previous hearing, Sibal also informed the court that the protesting farmers had agreed to meet with the High Power Committee established by the Supreme Court. He stated that the farmers had been persuaded to engage with the committee, and it was anticipated that further discussions would take place soon.
The Supreme Court is set to review the case on January 22, as it continues to monitor Dallewal’s health and the ongoing farmers’ protests.
