The Supreme Court dismissed a plea by Israeli national Dror Shlomo Goldstein, who claimed paternity of two Russian children.
Goldstein approached the apex court to stop the deportation of the minors, who were living in a cave in Gokarna.
Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi questioned the petitioner’s absence during the children’s time living in such conditions.
Following the sharp remark, “What were you doing while your children were living in the cave?” he withdrew the petition.
Justice Kant commented critically that India has become a paradise where ‘anyone can come and live’ without restriction.
Goldstein’s lawyer claimed he had earlier supported the Russian mothers and daughters but later left the country.
The Russian woman, Nina Kutina, wished to return to Russia with her daughters and approached the Karnataka High Court.
The High Court allowed the central government to issue travel documents for the mother and her minor daughters. Kutina had stayed in a Gokarna cave with her daughters, aged six and seven, without legal immigration documents.
She was eventually removed from the cave and taken to a foreign women’s detention facility in Tumkur, Karnataka.
The central government informed the court that deportation was delayed due to the absence of birth and travel documents. Goldstein challenged the High Court’s ruling, but the Supreme Court found no grounds to interfere with the decision.
