The Supreme Court on Wednesday strongly denounced the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a brutal and senseless act of violence.
In a resolution passed unanimously, the apex court expressed deep sorrow and condemnation, stating, “This diabolical act of mindless violence has shaken the conscience of all and is a stark reminder of the brutality and inhumanity that terrorism unleashes.”
The court paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack, offering its heartfelt condolences to the grieving families.
“May the departed souls rest in peace, and may those who were injured recover soon. The nation stands with the victims and their families in this hour of indescribable grief,” read the statement.
It further added, “The attack on tourists, who were merely enjoying the natural beauty of the Crown Jewel of India. Kashmir is undoubtedly an affront to the values of humanity and the sanctity of life, and this Court strongly condemns the same.”
Judges, advocates, court staff, and others present in court and the Registry observed a two-minute silence to show solidarity with the victims and their loved ones.
On the ground, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a review of the situation at the attack site in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam.
Arriving by helicopter, Shah first surveyed the region from the air before landing at the scene marked by violence.
He moved around the area under heavy security, as senior officials briefed him on the current state of affairs and the measures underway.
The visit comes amid heightened alert across the Kashmir Valley following the deadly assault.
