The Supreme Court will hear in July a petition seeking a CBI or SIT probe into alleged irregularities in the allocation of public contracts to companies owned by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s relatives.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Prashant Bhushan, described the situation as shocking, claiming that the state is being run like a private company.
Alleged Contract Irregularities Involving Khandu’s Relatives
Bhushan alleged that key tenders were awarded to companies linked to Khandu’s family members.
He claimed that Khandu’s wife’s company, M/s Brand Eagles, received around 70 contracts worth hundreds of crores.
Similarly, his nephew Tsering Tashi, an MLA from Tawang district, allegedly secured contracts for M/s Alliance Trading Company without following due process.
The Arunachal Pradesh government’s lawyer argued that the petition misuses the legal process. He stated that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had already investigated the matter and found no wrongdoing.
The CAG report confirmed that the state acted within legal boundaries.
The government also labeled the petition as politically motivated. It claimed that the petitioners are a group opposing the state’s development.
However, Bhushan insisted that the matter involves large-scale financial misconduct, urging the court to order an independent investigation.
The Supreme Court had earlier directed a CAG probe into the allegations.
With the CAG report now submitted, the court will decide on further action in the next hearing.
