Meerut ‘Snakebite Murder’ Case: Wife, Lover Get Death Sentence For Husband’s Killing

A court in Meerut on Friday sentenced Ravita and her lover, Amardeep, to death for murdering her husband, Amit Kashyap, and staging the crime as a snakebite.

The sentencing comes days after another Meerut court handed the death penalty to Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla in the 2025 ‘Blue Drum murder case’. The pair were convicted of murdering Muskan’s husband, Saurabh Rajput, and concealing his dismembered body in a drum.

In the latest case, Additional District Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar heard the proceedings. Both accused appeared via video conferencing from jail. The court convicted them on October 7.

The murder took place in Akbarpur Sadat village, under the Bahsuma police station area of Meerut.

On April 13, 2025, relatives found Amit Kashyap dead on his bed, with a snake trapped beneath his waist. His body reportedly had around 10 snakebite marks.

Ravita opposed the family’s request for a post-mortem examination. The report found no snake venom and identified suffocation as the cause of death, prompting police to investigate the case as murder.

Investigators examined call records and found 51 calls between Ravita and Amardeep within 24 hours. Police said Kashyap suspected their relationship and had threatened Ravita.

According to investigators, the pair bought a snake from a snake charmer for Rs 1,000 and placed it on the bed to make the death appear to be a snakebite.

Kashyap’s brother, Monu, filed a complaint on April 16, 2025. Police submitted the charge sheet within 60 days.

The court held 87 hearings over 551 days and examined more than 12 prosecution witnesses before delivering its verdict.
