A special NIA court in Jammu has issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against Pakistan-based terror handler Mohammad Yakub alias Abu Sumama, Sumama Ilyas and Waris Ali.

The court passed the order after hearing an application filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The agency sought warrants because the accused were absconding.

The case is registered as RC No 02/2026/NIA/JMU.

According to the NIA, the accused is a designated terrorist under Section 35 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and is listed at serial number 74.

During the investigation, a Chinese grenade and 15 live cartridges were recovered from the possession of Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat in Srinagar.

The NIA said the probe into the recovery subsequently brought the alleged role of Pakistan-based handler Abu Sumama to light.

According to the agency, Abu Sumama allegedly issued instructions to the arrested Pakistani terrorists. They were identified as Abdullah Rajput alias Kamran Ahmad and Khubaib alias Usman Jatt.

The NIA has alleged that the two received instructions to carry out terrorist activities in the Kashmir Valley. Their alleged targets included security forces and civilians.

During the proceedings, the court found the accused to be absconding.

Following the hearing, it accepted the NIA’s application and ordered the issuance of non-bailable warrants against the accused.

The warrants mark a significant step in the ongoing probe. The investigation focuses on the alleged Pakistan-linked terror network and its activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
