Delhi High Court Upholds Order To Preserve CBI Officials’ Call Records In Bribery Case

The Delhi High Court upheld the lower court’s order to preserve call detail records (CDRs) and location data of CBI officials. The case involves a 2022 CBI bribery case against two MCD employees.

Justice Chandra Dhari Singh clarified that the lower court only ordered data preservation, not disclosure. He said this step prevents the destruction of important evidence. He also directed the lower court to protect sensitive information. He warned that leaks could harm the investigation and endanger CBI officials.

CBI Arrested Two MCD Officials

Ashok Kumar filed a complaint in 2022. He alleged that two MCD employees demanded a ₹1,000 bribe. The accused, junior engineer Neeraj Kumar and beldar Sukhdev, allegedly asked for the bribe.

CBI arrested both officials but later granted them bail. The lower court then ordered the preservation of CBI officials’ call records.

The high court ruled that authorities must not destroy evidence under routine data policies. It stressed that leaks of sensitive data could compromise the case.

The court’s decision ensures transparency while protecting law enforcement officials. It reinforces strict judicial oversight in corruption cases.
