The Delhi High Court has refused to grant interim relief to actor Ajaz Khan in connection with a case linked to the alleged circulation of pornographic content online.
The court has listed the matter for further hearing on September 22, when it will consider Khan’s anticipatory bail plea.
Earlier, the Tis Hazari Court rejected a similar request from the actor, noting that investigators served him two notices for questioning, but he failed to appear.
The court had also emphasised the necessity of custodial interrogation to collect critical digital evidence.
According to Delhi Police, Ajaz Khan faces accusations of circulating objectionable videos targeting the complainant and their family, while also issuing threats.
The complainant further alleged that the actor uploaded obscene content directed against them and their daughter.
In response, Khan’s counsel argued that the actor has been falsely implicated. The lawyer alleged that the complainant’s son, a YouTuber, had attempted to malign Khan’s reputation by spreading defamatory content against him on social media.
Court Stresses Seriousness of Digital Crimes
In its earlier ruling, the Tis Hazari Court underlined that it treats offences committed on digital platforms with the same seriousness as crimes committed in physical life.
The court also stressed that individuals who do not cooperate with investigations cannot expect relief from the judiciary.
Meanwhile, Ajaz Khan also faces legal trouble in Mumbai, where an actress has filed a separate case against him. She accused the actor of repeatedly raping her under the false pretext of marriage, while also promising financial and professional assistance.
The allegations in Mumbai add to the actor’s mounting legal challenges, complicating his efforts to secure relief in Delhi.
With the Delhi High Court scheduled to hear the matter in September, Khan’s immediate prospects for anticipatory bail remain uncertain.
Legal experts note that the actor will need to demonstrate cooperation with the investigation to improve his chances of relief.
The judiciary is increasingly treating offences committed online on par with those in the real world, highlighting its evolving approach towards digital crimes.
