Delhi HC Seeks Police Reply On Sharjeel Imam’s Plea Against Framing Of Charges

Delhi High Court has issued notice to Delhi Police on Sharjeel Imam’s plea challenging charges in the 2019 Jamia violence case.

Sharjeel Imam’s Bail Plea

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police in response to a petition filed by Sharjeel Imam challenging the framing of charges in the 2019 Jamia violence case.

The court will hear the case on April 24.

Sharjeel Imam moved the High Court against the Saket Court’s decision, which framed charges against him and 11 others.

However, Justice Sanjeev Narula refused to stay the lower court’s order.

The Additional Sessions Judge Vishal Singh had called Imam the mastermind behind the violence.

The court stated that he incited anger and hatred in a particular community and instigated people to block roads.

The court framed charges against Imam under several IPC sections, including 109, 120B, 153A, 143, 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, 332, 333, 308, 427, 435, 323, and 341.

Asif Iqbal Tanha, Anshu Khan, and Chandan Kumar also face charges under similar sections.

The court acquitted 14 accused, including Shifa-ur-Rehman, Mohammad Adil, Ruhul Amin, and others.

It rejected the defense’s argument that Imam could not be held responsible for the riots.

The court emphasized that the violence on public roads was a direct result of Imam’s speech.

The Delhi High Court’s decision to seek a response from the police marks a crucial step in the legal proceedings.

The case continues to be a focal point in the 2019 Jamia violence investigation.
