The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi Police to clarify whether they are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) software to trace missing persons in the capital.
A bench comprising Justices Prathiba M Singh and Dharmesh Sharma directed the State to submit an affidavit detailing whether AI technology is available or has utilized to locate individuals who have gone missing due to various reasons, including medical conditions.
The Court was hearing a plea filed by a man searching for his father, who has been missing since February 2023.
Despite following the necessary procedures, the Delhi Police informed the Court through a status report that the petitioner’s father had not been located.

In response, the Court instructed the police to explore AI-based solutions for tracing the missing individual and file a fresh status report after implementing this approach.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for 18 March.
Advocates Ahsan Sanjar, Kamlesh Kumar Mishra, Nitin Kumar Natak, Renu, and Arpita represented the petitioner, while Standing Counsel Sanjay Lao, along with Advocates Priyam Agarwal and Abhinav Arya, appeared for the State.
