The Delhi High Court decided to extend the interim suspension of sentence granted to Rajpal Yadav in cheque dishonour cases. The court allowed the relief to continue after reviewing the progress made in the matter.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma observed that Yadav had already cleared a substantial portion of the outstanding amount owed to Murli Projects Pvt Ltd.
The judge indicated that sending him back to custody was not necessary at this stage and confirmed that the main petition would be heard.
Yadav’s legal representative informed the court that nearly Rs 4.25 crore had been paid, including a Rs 25 lakh demand draft submitted during the proceedings.
The bench refused to set aside the earlier order granting interim relief despite a request from the complainant. It pointed out that the actor remained available and engaged with the legal process, suggesting that the remaining dues could be recovered.
The court stated that the dispute would either be settled mutually or resolved through arguments on merit.
Justice Sharma directed Yadav to either complete the settlement by paying the remaining balance or proceed with contesting the case in court. The judge stressed the need to bring the matter to a conclusion without unnecessary delay.
The court scheduled the next hearing for April 1 and made it clear that no adjournments would be entertained. It indicated its intention to hear and decide the case on the scheduled date.
The interim suspension of sentence will remain effective until then.
Background: Interim Relief and Conviction
The Delhi High Court granted an interim suspension of sentence on February 16. This order allowed Rajpal Yadav to secure his release after depositing ₹1.5 crore with the complainant company.
This relief came after the court made strict observations earlier. It had directed him to surrender after finding that he had failed to meet payment obligations despite repeated concessions.
Yadav was convicted in 2024 in multiple cheque dishonour cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act. These convictions form the basis of the ongoing proceedings.
