Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Sunday underscored the importance of Yoga in promoting physical, mental and spiritual well-being during the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations held at the Supreme Court’s Administrative Building Complex.
Key Takeaways
Addressing the gathering, the CJI described Yoga as an integral part of India’s civilizational heritage and said it offers a timeless framework for achieving harmony between the mind, body and spirit. He noted that Yoga remains relevant in modern life by helping individuals find balance amid increasing pressures and demands.
Referring to the demanding work environment within the Supreme Court registry, Justice Surya Kant said officials and staff routinely deal with heavy workloads, strict deadlines and the pressures associated with supporting the administration of justice.
Such conditions, CJI noted, can affect both mental clarity and physical vitality, making it easy for individuals to overlook their health. He stressed that Yoga is not limited to those with exceptional flexibility or extensive free time.
According to the CJI, even a few minutes of conscious breathing or basic stretching can help manage stress, improve concentration and build the resilience needed to cope with demanding schedules. He emphasised that prioritising well-being is an investment in both individuals and the institution they serve.
Justice Surya Kant said International Yoga Day should serve as more than an annual observance and instead inspire people to adopt Yoga as a regular habit. He highlighted that the benefits of Yoga stem from consistency rather than occasional practice and encouraged participants to incorporate activities such as meditation or stretching into their daily routines.
The CJI also expressed appreciation to the registry team for organising the event and encouraged staff members to carry the day’s lessons into their workplaces and homes. He called for health and mindfulness to remain priorities throughout the year and extended his greetings on International Yoga Day to all participants.
