The Rouse Avenue Court will resume hearings on January 9 regarding the bail plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Baliyan. Baliyan, who was arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), is seeking bail in the case. Special Judge Kaveri Baveja is presiding over the proceedings.
The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has filed a reply opposing Baliyan’s bail plea. According to the Crime Branch, Baliyan is a highly influential figure, and the investigation in the case is still ongoing. The police have raised concerns that if bail is granted, Baliyan could tamper with evidence and influence witnesses, which could hamper the progress of the case. In their response, the Crime Branch urged the court to reject the bail application.
At the last hearing, the court had issued a notice to the Delhi Police and instructed them to file a response to Baliyan’s bail plea. In the meantime, Baliyan has remained in judicial custody. On December 13, the Rouse Avenue Court had sent him to judicial custody until January 9. Notably, Baliyan was arrested by the Delhi Police under MCOCA immediately after being granted bail in an extortion case by the same court.

In another development, the Delhi High Court recently ordered the transfer of an MCOCA case involving Baliyan to the Rouse Avenue Court from Dwarka Court. This decision followed a petition filed by the Delhi Police. Baliyan’s arrest under MCOCA took place on December 4, the same day he was granted bail in the extortion case.
The case against Baliyan stems from a conversation between him and notorious gangster Kapil Sangwan, which reportedly occurred in 2023. Sangwan, who has lived in Britain for the last five years, is allegedly involved in several criminal activities. He is a prime suspect in the murders of Nafe Singh in Haryana, Ballu Pehelwan, and BJP leader Surendra Matiyala. Both Baliyan and Sangwan are originally from Najafgarh, Delhi, and the police allege that Baliyan’s association with Sangwan forms a crucial part of the ongoing investigation.
As the court continues to deliberate on Baliyan’s bail plea, the case is attracting significant attention, with both legal and political implications.
