Ayodhya Land Dispute Reaches Supreme Court; Petition Claims Law Violations

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the land acquisition for development projects in Ayodhya. Lawyer Narendra Mishra submitted the petition, making the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments parties to the case. The petition accuses the UP government of irregularities in land acquisition from 2021 to 2023. It also demands the cancellation of the acquisition notification.

Allegations Of Profiteering In Ayodhya Land Deals

Before approaching the Supreme Court, the petitioners sent a memorandum to the Central Government. The petition claims the government acquired agricultural land at low prices, converted it for commercial use, and then sold it at higher rates for profit. It also alleges that the government violated the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and ignored legal procedures.

Recently, the Allahabad High Court fined the UP government Rs 15,000 for delaying its response for two and a half years. In another land acquisition case, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that Section 113 of the Land Acquisition Act allows the Central Government’s decision to prevail in disputes. The government has decided to provide compensation from the date of the acquisition notification.

The petitioners argue that the Supreme Court has ruled in multiple cases that compensation must follow the new law. They claim the Central Government assured the court of fair compensation but is now backtracking on its commitment. The Supreme Court is likely to hear the case soon.
