In a significant development, the Supreme Court has granted relief to Anu Santhi, accused in the 2014 Attingal double murder case, by suspending her life sentence. The order was passed by a bench comprising Justice Abhay Oka and Justice AG Masih.
Attingal Double Murder Case: State Government Seeks Bail Cancellation
During the hearing, the state government argued for the cancellation of the bail granted to Anu Santhi, stating that she played a significant role in the conspiracy behind the murders. The government also rejected Shanti’s claims of losing her eyesight due to alleged police brutality, calling these allegations baseless.
Attingal Double Murder Case Details
On April 16, 2014, Nino Mathew, the co-accused in the case, killed Anu Santhi’s daughter, Swastika (4), and her mother-in-law, Vijayamma (57), at their residence in Attingal.
The accused were charged with murder, attempted murder, destruction of evidence, and conspiracy. The state’s affidavit presented during the proceedings stated that Anu Shanti was sentenced to double life imprisonment based on clear evidence of her involvement in the crime.
Conspiracy and Previous Verdicts
According to the prosecution, Anu Santhi and her lover, Nino Mathew, both employees at Kazhakuttam Technopark, conspired and executed the brutal killings. Nino Mathew was initially sentenced to death by the trial court, but the Kerala High Court commuted his sentence to life imprisonment.
This latest development in the case comes after the Supreme Court intervened in the ongoing legal battle, offering a reprieve to the accused. The case continues to unfold as further hearings are expected.
