Aaj Tak anchor Anjana Om Kashyap and TV Today Network have filed a defamation suit before the Delhi High Court against exam coaching teacher Faisal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir, over allegedly defamatory remarks made against the journalist.
The lawsuit pertains to comments allegedly made by Khan Sir in connection with Kashyap’s coverage of ‘Star Teachers’.
The plaintiffs have sought the removal of remarks they describe as defamatory, including terms such as ‘Bikau Patrakar’, ‘Chatukar’, ‘Dalaali’, and ‘Fake News Dukaan’, which were allegedly used in reference to the journalist and her reporting.
The case is scheduled to come up for hearing on Monday before a vacation bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna.
According to the petition, the remarks have caused reputational harm and warrant judicial intervention.
The plaintiffs have also sought the removal of the disputed content. The material was allegedly circulated on online and social media platforms.
The dispute traces its origins to a live debate concerning the NEET examination system. During the discussion, Kashyap allegedly criticised online educators, describing some as ‘frauds’ and others as ‘explainers’ focused on generating views.
The subsequent exchange led to the controversy, with Khan Sir allegedly making remarks that the petitioners claim are defamatory.
Apart from seeking the removal of the content, Anjana Om Kashyap and TV Today Network have also filed a defamation claim of Rs 2 crore. The suit contends that the statements have adversely affected their reputation and seeks legal remedies under defamation law.
The matter will now be examined by the Delhi High Court. The court is expected to hear arguments from both sides regarding the disputed remarks. It will also consider the relief sought by the petitioners.
