Zomato Founder Goyal Quits CEO Role At Holding Company Eternal

Deepinder Goyal, founder of Zomato, resigned today as Group CEO of Eternal Limited, the parent company that oversees Zomato and Blinkit.

The change takes effect from February 1, 2026, ending Goyal’s influential tenure at the helm.

In a shareholder letter, Goyal explained his decision. He wants to pursue higher-risk initiatives and innovative projects that require focus beyond the constraints of leading a large publicly listed firm.

He stressed that operational and regulatory obligations made such ventures challenging under his CEO responsibilities.

Goyal will stay actively involved as Vice Chairman and board director, subject to shareholder approval.

He will guide long-term strategy, governance, and leadership development, while stepping back from daily operational duties.

The Eternal board appointed Albinder Singh Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit, as the new Group CEO.

Dhindsa will oversee daily operations across the company’s main units, ensuring continuity and smooth execution during this transition.

Observers view this move as a planned leadership evolution rather than a sudden exit.

Dhindsa’s promotion follows Blinkit’s impressive performance, which has made it one of Eternal’s fastest-growing segments.

The company recently reported a 73 per cent year-on-year profit increase along with robust revenue growth in both food delivery and quick commerce sectors.

Analysts describe Goyal’s exit as a strategic pivot that strengthens Eternal’s leadership while allowing him to chase new ambitions.

His focus on experimental ventures reflects an appetite for high-impact, high-risk innovation. Meanwhile, Dhindsa inherits a firm operating at strong financial momentum.

Politically and economically, the leadership shift is noteworthy. Goyal’s decision highlights how business visionaries influence corporate governance and shape the political economy of India’s start-up ecosystem.

The transition signals a blend of entrepreneurial foresight and structured corporate stewardship, demonstrating the balance between innovation and operational stability.

For policymakers, investors, and corporate watchers, Goyal’s move is a case study in leadership realignment, illustrating how founders can pivot while sustaining organisational growth and strategic governance.
