Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday paid rich tributes to medieval Rajput ruler Rana Sanga on his birth anniversary.
His remarks, shared on social media, came against the backdrop of a growing political controversy triggered by Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman’s contentious statement in the Rajya Sabha.
“On the birth anniversary of the mighty Rana Sanga Ji, who was dedicated to the protection of religion, many salutes to him! His story of glory, a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice, is a golden chapter in history. His bravery will continue to irrigate the land of India with self-respect for centuries,” Adityanath posted on X.
Controversy Erupts Over Suman’s Remarks In Parliament
The Chief Minister’s tribute followed a political uproar sparked by Ramji Lal Suman’s claim in Parliament that Rana Sanga invited Mughal emperor Babur to India to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. During a debate in the Rajya Sabha, Suman argued:
“BJP leaders often say that Muslims have Babur’s DNA. But the Muslims of India do not consider Babur as their ideal — they revere Prophet Mohammad. Who brought Babur to India? It was Rana Sanga.”

His statement provoked widespread backlash, especially in Agra, where a large crowd assembled outside Suman’s residence.
Members of the Karni Sena attempted to storm the MP’s home, prompting police intervention. A brief scuffle broke out, resulting in minor injuries to a few people.
BJP Demands Apology, Suman Stands Firm
Following the outrage, BJP leaders demanded a public apology from Suman. However, the Samajwadi Party MP has refused to retract his statement and continues to stand by his interpretation of historical events.
In an attempt to defuse tensions, SP president Akhilesh Yadav advised restraint. “The pages of history that carry controversy should not be reopened,” Yadav said, appealing for calm.
Karni Sena Plans Massive Rally In Agra
Amid escalating tensions, the Karni Sena organized a large-scale rally in Agra on Saturday to mark Rana Sanga’s birth anniversary.
The event, titled Rakt Swabhiman Sammelan, is expected to draw participants from multiple states and will feature several high-profile speakers.
Organizers aim to honor the warrior king’s legacy and counter what they perceive as an attack on historical pride. In anticipation of the massive turnout and to prevent further unrest, local authorities have implemented strict security measures across the city.
Security Tightened As Authorities Monitor Situation
Police have deployed additional personnel in sensitive areas and stationed forces near Suman’s residence and the rally venue.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure peace and prevent further clashes.
