Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled an ambitious plan aimed at revolutionizing grain storage for farmers. Launching the world’s most extensive grain storage initiative within the cooperative sector, Modi announced an investment of ₹1.25 lakh crore to create a storage capacity of 700 lakh tonnes over the next five years. The initiative involves the construction of numerous warehouses and godowns across the nation.
In a ceremony held on Saturday, Modi inaugurated 11 godowns established by 11 primary agricultural credit societies (PACS) spanning 11 states. Additionally, he laid the groundwork for the development of godowns and other agricultural infrastructure in 500 more PACS. Furthermore, a project for the computerization of 18,000 PACS throughout the country was also inaugurated.
Emphasizing the significance of this initiative, PM Modi criticized past administrations for neglecting storage infrastructure, resulting in significant losses for farmers. He highlighted that the lack of attention to this issue has been detrimental. However, through PACS, the government is now actively addressing this problem.
