On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said India is working to strengthen its position in global sport while addressing the inauguration of the World Archery Para Series 2026 in Ahmedabad.

Speaking through video conference, Shah said India’s sporting goals should extend beyond increasing its medal tally. He said the country must build greater strength at major international competitions, including the Olympics and Asian Games.

Welcoming participants from countries including Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Britain, France, Germany, Indonesia and the United States, Shah invoked the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, describing the world as one family.
The Minister stressed the importance of determination and sustained effort in producing champions.
According to Shah, coaching and practice alone cannot make an athlete successful without dedication and the resolve to win.
The World Para Archery competition will run for five days in Ahmedabad.
Shah said the participation of athletes from 19 countries would make the event significant for both competitors and the city.
The tournament forms part of India’s broader effort to build stronger sporting infrastructure and capabilities, with the government seeking to establish the country as an international destination for training, sports equipment manufacturing and sports-related medical services.
