With the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA returning to power for a third straight term in Assam, Sarma was sworn in as Chief Minister amid celebrations by party workers and supporters.
Along with Sarma, five ministers joined the new Council of Ministers. Former Union Minister Rameswar Teli, Asom Gana Parishad president Atul Bora, United People’s Party Liberal leader Charan Boro and senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog took oath as ministers.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended the swearing-in ceremony along with BJP leaders and Chief Ministers from 22 NDA-ruled states.
Several religious leaders, including 15 Satradhikars from Assam’s Vaishnavite monasteries, industrialists and personalities from different sectors were also present at the event.
Sarma, dressed in traditional Assamese attire, took the oath amid loud cheers at the venue. He first assumed office in 2021 and has now led the BJP to a historic third consecutive term in Assam, further consolidating the party’s influence in the northeastern state.
