India has seen an encouraging rise in the number of women enrolling in higher education, with a 26% increase in women’s enrolment in 2024.
This surge contrasts with a more modest 3.6% growth in men’s enrolment, as highlighted in a recent report by TeamLease Edtech.
The overall student enrolment in universities has increased by about 12% compared to the previous year, indicating a positive trend in the country’s higher education sector.
In addition to university enrolment, women’s participation in work-linked and work-integrated programs has seen a remarkable increase of over 124%, a sign of their growing presence in industry-aligned education pathways.
These programs aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical industry experience, providing students with the skills necessary to succeed in the workforce.
Men’s enrolment in these programs also grew, although at a lower rate of approximately 66%.
