On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the aspirations and contributions of women will continue to shape India’s path towards a strong and prosperous future, highlighting the growing role of ‘Nari Shakti’ in nation-building.
In a post on the social media platform, the Prime Minister praised the achievements of women and described their contributions as a powerful force driving the country’s progress.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “The achievements of India’s Nari Shakti are a source of pride and a powerful reminder of the transformative role in nation building. MyGovIndia Thread Highlights Women Breaking Stereotypes
The Prime Minister also shared a thread by the government’s official account MyGovIndia, which highlighted how women across the country are entering professions that were once considered unsuitable for them.
According to the post, women today are increasingly making their mark in sectors such as defence, science, entrepreneurship, governance and innovation, challenging long-standing stereotypes about gender roles.

“The idea that defence is not meant for women is fading fast. Across India’s armed forces and defence institutions, women are stepping into roles once considered impossible, proving that courage, leadership and commitment know no gender,” the post further said.

It also pointed out that aviation, traditionally viewed as a male-dominated field, is witnessing a growing presence of women pilots in India.
With one of the highest shares of women commercial pilots globally, the country is setting an example for gender representation in the aviation sector.

The post further noted that women are increasingly becoming part of India’s industrial workforce, contributing to manufacturing and infrastructure sectors that power the country’s economic growth.

Women are also playing a significant role in research and innovation, working across laboratories, engineering teams and space missions that are expanding India’s scientific capabilities.

The thread highlighted the rise of women entrepreneurs as well, stating that women founders are increasingly emerging within India’s startup ecosystem, transforming ideas into businesses that drive innovation and economic development.

In a separate post, MyGovIndia said that the changing role of women reflects a shift in national development priorities, where empowerment now focuses on enabling leadership and participation across sectors rather than only providing support.

Government Schemes Supporting Women Empowerment
The government also highlighted several welfare initiatives aimed at improving women’s social and economic participation.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, more than 10.5 crore LPG connections have been provided to households, improving access to clean cooking fuel.
Similarly, over 12 crore toilets have been built under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), while more than 28 crore women now hold bank accounts through the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
The government also noted that women own around 72 per cent of the houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin, either solely or jointly.
Additionally, women-led micro and small enterprises have secured orders worth more than Rs 80,000 crore through the Government e-Marketplace platform, while over three crore women have benefited from the Lakhpati Didi Yojana.
At the grassroots level, nearly 14.5 lakh women are currently serving as elected representatives in Panchayati Raj Institutions, accounting for about 46 per cent of all members and strengthening women’s participation in local governance.
