A woman allegedly defrauded the disabled autorickshaw driver of Rs 23,500 under the pretence of exchanging the cash for a digital payment after she overheard him speaking to a friend on the phone and requesting him to return his money.
During the epidemic, the 58-year-old car driver, Shivakumar VH, of Mahadeswara Layout near Nagarbhavi, lost his right leg to gangrene. On August 4, according to Shivakumar, he was in Chandra Layout. “Around 9.45am, I was talking to one of my friends who owed me money. I asked him to come near PES College in Hanumanthnagar and pay me. When I was on the phone, a woman in her 20s approached me and asked me to take her near PES College. Since I had to meet my friend, I readily agreed. She asked me if I had PhonePe.”
Shivakumar contacted his friend once again after she had boarded the car to let him know he was on his way to PES College and to urge him to bring the money. “I was supposed to receive Rs 25,000 from my pal. When we got close to Nayandahalli, she overheard our chat and asked for my PhonePe number once more. I gave her the number thinking that she wanted to pay the auto fare, Shivakumar stated.

“My friend gave me Rs 25,000 when we were close to the college, and then he went. In front of her, I counted the money. Do you need this money, Uncle? she questioned. I said yes despite not understanding why. She then informed me that the college did not accept electronic payments and that she had to pay a fee. She claimed she needed the money and didn’t have cash or a debit card, Shivakumar recalled.

“I told the woman that I would give her the cash when she had transferred the funds. She pretended to pay the requested amount when she asked for Rs. 23,400. She collected the cash from me after showing me the screen of her mobile device on which she had deposited Rs 23,500, including the vehicle fee. She was ready to depart when I realized I hadn’t read the note. I requested her to remain because I hadn’t yet gotten the message. She provided me her telephone number and instructed me to call her if there was an issue. She also instructed me to pay the fee in the college right away. She hurried across the road and into the frame as I snapped her picture with my phone.
Women Didn’t send him money
He claimed that because of his condition, he was powerless to pursue her. The woman had not sent him any money, according to his account balance check. According to Shivakumar, he was not permitted to enter the college’s grounds. He then went to the police and complained.
In an effort to find the woman, Girinagar police have filed a complaint under IPC section 420 (cheating and dishonesty).
