Will N Rangasamy’s NDA Retain Puducherry? Exit Polls Hint At Close Majority

Alongside key states such as West Bengal, exit poll results for all 30 Assembly seats in Puducherry have been released. This follows the conclusion of voting.

Early trends after polling ended at 6 PM indicate that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to maintain its stronghold. This comes in the politically significant Union Territory.

According to various surveys, including data from ‘AI AM Analytics’, the NDA alliance led by Chief Minister N Rangasamy appears close to the majority mark of 16 seats. Projections suggest the NDA could secure between 14 and 17 seats.

The Congress-DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) is expected to win around 9 to 11 seats, presenting a competitive challenge.

Actor Vijay’s newly launched party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), is also making its presence felt and is projected to secure 2 to 4 seats, potentially influencing the outcome.

The 2026 Assembly elections witnessed remarkable voter enthusiasm in Puducherry.

As per the Election Commission, over 9.5 lakh voters were registered, with women voters (5.03 lakh) outnumbering men (4.46 lakh).

The voter turnout, however, reached an impressive 89.83%, marking a historic high for the Union Territory.

A total of 294 candidates contested the elections. These included 34 from national parties, 63 from regional parties, and 117 independents, highlighting the diversity of political representation.

2021 Election Context

In the 2021 Assembly elections, the NDA formed the government by winning 16 seats, with N Rangasamy’s AINRC securing 10 seats and the BJP winning 6. The Congress was reduced to just 2 seats in that election.

Current exit polls suggest that nearly 55% of voters are inclined to support the incumbent government once again.

While the Congress has partnered with the DMK to strengthen its position, new political players appear to have split the opposition vote. This division could potentially benefit the NDA.

Exit polls offer an early indication of voter sentiment. The official results on May 4 will, however, determine Puducherry’s political future and who forms the next government.
