When the G20 Summit is taking place in Delhi, the Delhi Police have instructed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to close a few metro station entry and exit gates. This will take place, according to the police, at 39 metro stations throughout the capital from September 8 to September 10.
The necessary security preparations for the G20 Summit were discussed in a letter from DCP (Metro) G Ram Gopal Naik to the DMRC chief security commissioner on Saturday.
“As you are aware, the G-20 Summit in 2023 is rapidly approaching, and we are taking every precaution to strengthen the security system. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the gates that open towards the VVIPS route, venue of the summit, or place of stay may be closed from September 8, 2023, to September 10, 2023, in order to maintain flawless security arrangements during the next summit, according to the letter.
From September 8 to September 10, gates to places like Khan Market, Lajpat Nagar, Kailash Colony, Jangpura, Ashram, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, R K Puram, Bhikaji Cama Place, Munirka, IIT, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Sadar Bazaar Cantt, Palam, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Mandi House, ITO, and Delhi Gate will be shut.
At some of these stations’ gates, the police will only bar admission and exit while permitting normal mobility at others. Additionally, they requested that the gate shutdown request be given “top priority” and stated that such requests may be made for security purposes during the G20 Summit.
