In a heartwarming gesture that has inspired people across Rajasthan, 15-year-old Garvit Rewad, who is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), saw his dream of becoming an IAS officer come true when the Didwana-Kuchaman district administration appointed him District Collector for a day.
Garvit, a resident of Rodu village in the Ladnun region, arrived at the Collectorate in an official government vehicle and received a warm welcome from District Collector Avdhesh Meena.
Presented with a bouquet and escorted into the Collector’s chamber, Garvit took his seat and experienced the responsibilities of the district’s top administrative officer.
During the visit, Garvit interacted with officials, listened to public concerns and even announced a symbolic one-day holiday, bringing smiles to those present.
A Battle Against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Born on 24 August 2010, Garvit lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare genetic condition that progressively weakens the muscles. Despite severe physical limitations, he has continued to pursue his education with determination.
Unable to write independently, Garvit dictated his answers during the 2026 Class 10 board examinations and achieved an impressive score of 82.83 per cent. His achievement has become a powerful example of perseverance and dedication.
Garvit credits his father, government school teacher Rakesh Rewad, as his biggest inspiration.
Watching his father prepare for the Rajasthan Administrative Service examination motivated him to dream of serving the nation as an IAS officer.
District Collector Avdhesh Meena said the administration decided to fulfil Garvit’s wish after learning about his ambition and achievements. He said the administration launched the initiative to encourage young people to remain hopeful and determined, regardless of the challenges they face.
More than a ceremonial event, Garvit’s day as District Collector served as a reminder that courage, determination, and compassion can overcome even the greatest obstacles. His story continues to inspire countless people, proving that dreams need not be limited by circumstances.
