On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held his first cabinet meeting at the state secretariat Nabanna, where the newly formed government announced several major decisions related to governance, welfare, national security and administrative reforms.

During the meeting, Suvendu Adhikari thanked the people of West Bengal and the Election Commission of India for what he described as a peaceful and intimidation-free election.

The cabinet also paid tribute to 321 BJP workers allegedly killed in political violence, with the Chief Minister assuring support for their families.

The government further approved the fast-tracking of nearly 600 acres of land transfer to the Border Security Force to complete fencing along the India-Bangladesh border within 45 days.

The new government also announced the immediate implementation of the Ayushman Bharat healthcare insurance scheme in West Bengal, which had not been operational under the previous administration.

The state will also roll out several central welfare schemes, including PM Jan Arogya Yojana, PM Fasal Bima Yojana, PM Vishwakarma and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

The cabinet further decided to allow IAS, IPS and WBPS officers to participate in central training programmes.

The government also confirmed the immediate implementation of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita in the state.

The government also approved a five-year age relaxation for candidates who missed state job opportunities due to recruitment controversies.

Suvendu Adhikari said his administration would prioritise transparent governance, public safety and welfare reforms while strengthening confidence in public institutions.

The first cabinet meeting highlighted the government’s focus on welfare schemes, border security and administrative reforms in West Bengal.
