The rescue operations continued on the fourth day of the state’s worst-ever natural calamity.

Divided into nine groups more than one thousand-member rescue team hailing from various forces are working to assist people and search missing ones. Local volunteers are also contributing the operartion. Heavy earth moving equipments and sniffer dogs are alos employed in the rescue and assistance work.

The worst-affected landslide areas of Churalpara, Velarimala, Mundakayil, and Punchirimadom.

With a 190-foot Bailey Bridge now erected, the connectivity between Churalmalai and Mundakayil has been restored.

An officer heading the operations said there were some houses buried in one of the affected places where they were headed.

“Around 10 houses were there at the place we are reaching soon and according to what we are being told there might be some people, maybe alive,” said the official.

Currently, there are now 91 relief camps where 9,328 people have been evacuated safely.

The telecom infrastructure has been augmented and restored to provide continuous coverage in landslide-hit Wayanad in Kerala, to maintain essential communication for rescue teams, government officials and the public, said the government.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is providing 4G services in landslide-hit Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas of the Wayanad district.

“Diesel engines have been provided to ensure that the towers are functional even when there is no power. Speedy Internet connections have been given to the district administration and toll-free numbers to the Health Department, Government of Kerala,” the Centre informed.

Airtel is offering prepaid users whose validity has ended and who are unable to recharge 1GB of free mobile data per day, unlimited talking, and 100 SMS per day (usable for three days).

In order to guarantee uninterrupted mobile service for all postpaid users, Airtel has also extended bill date by 30 days.

Additionally, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has stated that prepaid subscribers will receive 1GB free mobile data for seven days.

The additional data will be automatically credited to users’ accounts. This will help them to conveniently and uninterruptedly access information and maintain relationships with loved ones.

According to the Center, Vodafone Idea has extended the deadlines for bill payments for postpaid clients by ten days.

Notably, On 30 July, severe landslides hit the some area of Wayanad. In what is called worst hit landslides scores of people have lost their lives along with habitations wiped out. Wayanad landslides death toll has reached to 297.
