Following the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 in both Houses of Parliament, celebrations have erupted across the country.
The Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) hailed the bill as a historic reform.
It credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal, and thousands of MRM workers for making it possible.
Speaking on the occasion, MRM National Convener Shahid Sayeed urged Muslims to celebrate the moment with pride. He clarified that the new law does not target any religion or sect.
Instead, it ensures transparency, justice, and benefits for orphans, widows, and the poor.
Moreover, the MRM warned citizens against political parties and groups spreading fear and misinformation.
It stated that although India gained independence in 1947, Waqf properties have only now been freed from mafia control and land mafias.
The bill, according to MRM, also breaks the hold of parties like Congress, SP, and RJD over the Muslim community, encouraging them to embrace progress and development.
To build support for the bill, the MRM organized over 5,000 events, including meetings, seminars, debates, and media campaigns.
As a result, awareness about the corruption and exploitation of Waqf properties spread rapidly.
These initiatives helped debunk myths and clarified that the law supports reform, not religious interference.
Additionally, the books Respect to Islam and Gift for Muslim played a key role.
It laid out the historical background, the need for reform, and the law’s intended benefits.
Launched in the presence of dignitaries like Kiren Rijiju, Arif Mohammad Khan, and others, the book was called an ‘encyclopedia of Waqf’.
According to the book, Waqf assets worth ₹2 lakh crore have produced only ₹163 crore in annual income.
In contrast, with proper management, the revenue could be ₹1.25 lakh crore.
This shortfall, it argued, denied Indian Muslims vital facilities like hospitals, universities, and skill centers.
The book compared this neglect to successful initiatives by the Vaishno Devi Trust and AMU, which used similar models for community growth.
Experts also welcomed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.
Prof Shahid Akhtar called it a long-overdue step to curb encroachments and misuse. Dr Shalini Ali said it exposes those who resisted audits and transparency.
Meanwhile, Adv Shiraz Qureshi noted that the bill ensures rightful access to Waqf benefits for poor Muslims.
Senior journalist Shahid Sayeed added that despite political challenges, the Prime Minister’s move shows genuine concern for the underprivileged.
Finally, MRM leaders, including Mohammad Afzal, Girish Juyal, Syed Raza Hussain Rizvi, and others, appealed to citizens to reject divisive politics.
They emphasized that this is a moment for change, unity, and empowerment.
They believe the law lays the foundation for ‘Development through Waqf’, enabling Indian Muslims to move forward with dignity and self-reliance.
