On Wednesday, All India Muslim Jamaat chief Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi asserted that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is beneficial for Muslims and does not pose any threat.
He accused certain political groups of misleading the public by creating unnecessary fear about the bill.
“I hope that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill will be passed in Parliament without any disruptions and problems. The opposition will definitely create a ruckus because it wants to do vote bank politics, so it will definitely create a ruckus to preserve their vote bank,” Razvi stated.
Refuting concerns about potential harm to the Muslim community, Razvi reassured, “There is no danger to Muslims from the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and other people associated with political groups are scaring Muslims, misleading them, spreading rumours, and creating misunderstandings.”
He further added, “However, I assure Muslims that no one will take away their mosques, eidgahs, dargahs, or graveyards. This is only and only a rumour.”
Razvi has previously criticized various Muslim organizations and political parties for misleading the community regarding the bill.
He also accused AIMPLB of deviating from its core purpose due to political influences.
Highlighting the positive aspects, Razvi emphasized that the revenue generated post-amendment would directly benefit underprivileged Muslims.
He remarked, “The income generated after the implementation of the amendments will spent on the poor, weak, helpless, devout, and widowed Muslims. This will lead to their progress and development. We will invest in education, using the income to establish and maintain schools, colleges, madrasas, and mosques.”
Razvi further stressed that the bill aims to restore the original intent of Waqf, saying, “The purpose of the Waqf, as envisioned by our elders, was that the income through it should invested and spent on public welfare works. However, due to corruption, this could not happen.”
“This new bill will stop corruption and direct funds toward legitimate causes. This is for the progress of Muslims, who will benefit from it. The illegal selling of Waqf board lands worth crores of rupees for personal gain will stopped, and the income will used for rightful purposes,” Razvi emphasized.
Expressing optimism about the bill’s approval, Razvi concluded, “We hope that this bill is passed in both the Houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and that it proves to be in the interest of Muslims, becoming a milestone for the welfare of people.”
