Voter Turnout At 03:00 PM: West Bengal At 78.68% In Phase 2

Voting in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 recorded a turnout of 78.68 per cent by 3 PM on Wednesday across 142 constituencies, indicating sustained voter participation through the day.

The figure is marginally lower than the 78.77 per cent reported during the corresponding period in the first phase held earlier.

With polling scheduled to continue until 6 PM, officials from the Election Commission of India expect the final turnout to approach the 93 per cent mark seen in the previous phase.

Election authorities noted that voter participation remained consistently high, even during the afternoon hours, which typically see a dip in turnout. This pattern has been observed in both phases of polling this time.

District-wise data showed East Burdwan leading with 83.11 per cent turnout, followed by Hooghly at 80.77 per cent and Nadia at 79.79 per cent. Kolkata (North) recorded 78 per cent, while Howrah stood at 77.73 per cent. North 24 Parganas saw 77.39 per cent polling, South 24 Parganas 76.75 per cent, and Kolkata (South) 75.38 per cent.

The turnout remains significantly higher than the 58.5 per cent recorded during the same time frame in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Among constituencies, Galsi in East Burdwan reported the highest turnout at 85.11 per cent, while Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas recorded the lowest at 70.1 per cent.

In the closely watched Bhabanipur seat in south Kolkata, where Mamata Banerjee is contesting against Suvendu Adhikari, voter turnout stood at 75.66 per cent by 03:00 PM.

Polling officials said voting is progressing smoothly, with a few hours still remaining before the close of polling.
