Press Information Bureau Debunks Viral Claim Of Petrol, Diesel Price Hike

On Wednesday, the fact-checking division of the Press Information Bureau dismissed a viral social media message that claimed petrol and diesel prices had increased by up to Rs 12.50 per litre, calling it false.

Taking to X, the Press Information Bureau clarified that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has not issued any such directive. It urged the public to rely only on official communication and avoid sharing unverified information.

The clarification followed the circulation of a purported government order online suggesting a steep increase in fuel prices.

Earlier, a senior government official had also stated that there is currently no plan to revise retail fuel prices, even as global energy markets remain volatile.

Speaking at an official briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, assured that supplies of petrol, diesel and LPG remain adequate across the country. She appealed to consumers not to panic, emphasising that there has been no change in prices.

Officials said the government continues to monitor developments in global oil markets, particularly in West Asia, but reiterated that domestic fuel availability and supply remain stable.
