On Friday, former wrestling champion Vinesh Phogat formally resigned from her position as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Sports at Northern Railways.

Phogat, who held the role at level 7, shared her departure with a heartfelt message on X.

“My time serving Indian Railways has been a memorable and proud chapter of my life. At this juncture, I have decided to separate myself from the railway service and have submitted my resignation to the competent authorities of Indian Railways. I will always be grateful to the Indian Railways family for the opportunity given to me to serve the nation,” Vinesh Phogat stated in her post.

In a significant political development, Vinesh Phogat is to join the Indian National Congress (INC) today.

Reports suggest she is gearing up to contest in the forthcoming Haryana Assembly elections.

This meeting occurred shortly after the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) finalized its candidate list for the 5 October elections.

Speculation indicates that Vinesh may be considered for either the Charkhi Dadri or Julana constituency.

Phogat’s decision to step into the political arena follows a poignant moment in her sports career.

She missed the chance to secure a gold medal in the women’s freestyle 50kg category at the Paris Olympics after being disqualified from the final due to a weight issue.

Subsequently, Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling on social media, marking the end of an era in her athletic journey.

Phogat’s transition from a celebrated sports figure to a potential political candidate marks a new chapter in her career.

The wrestling star’s move into politics reflects her continued commitment to public service, extending her influence from the sports field to the political arena.
