Vijayadashami 2026: PM Modi Calls For National Unity, Highlights Lord Ram’s Teachings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on citizens to stand together against elements that, he said, weaken India’s dignity, reputation, social harmony and cultural traditions during his Vijayadashami address on Tuesday.

PM Modi identified forces that create divisions, promote hostility towards Indian culture and damage the country’s standing as challenges requiring a united response.

“Our ancient seers taught us — all political parties, all institutions to be united against enemies,” the Prime Minister said, emphasising the need for people and institutions to work collectively in the national interest.

Extending his festive wishes, PM Modi said, “On Vijayadashami, I offer my salutations at the feet of Lord Ram, Mother Janaki, and Bajrang Bali (Lord Hanuman). I extend my heartfelt wishes for Vijayadashami to all my countrymen.”

Prime Minister Modi observed that Ramlila performances held in towns and villages across India continue to bring Lord Ram’s teachings to new generations. These traditional enactments, he said, underline the victory of truth over falsehood and the defeat of tyranny.

The Prime Minister said Lord Ram’s significance lies not only in his victory over Ravana but in the principles he followed throughout his life. Despite difficult circumstances, Lord Ram remained steadfast in his commitment to truth and dharma.

PM Modi recalled his acceptance of exile and his interactions with Nishadraj and Mother Shabari as examples of humility, affection and respect. He further cited Ram Rajya as an enduring model of governance built on fairness, equal opportunities and justice without discrimination.

Referring to the consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, PM Modi reiterated the vision of progressing from ‘Ram’ to ‘Rashtra’ and from ‘Dev’ to ‘Desh’. He further  stressed that shared purpose, respect for India’s cultural heritage and a sense of collective duty could help advance this vision and reinforce national unity.
