Veer Baal Diwas: PM Modi, Leaders Honour Courage And Sacrifice Of Sahibzades

PM Modi and other leaders pay tribute to the Sahibzades on Veer Baal Diwas, honouring their courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy across India.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the Sahibzades, the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, on the occasion of Veer Baal Diwas.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Veer Baal Diwas is a day of reverence, dedicated to remembering the sacrifice of the brave Sahibzades. We recall the unshakeable faith of Mata Gujri Ji and the immortal teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This day is associated with courage, conviction and righteousness. Their lives and ideals will continue to motivate people for generations.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute, emphasising the unmatched bravery of the Sahibzades and the enduring values instilled in them by their parents.

Shah highlighted that the observance of Veer Baal Diwas, initiated by PM Modi in January 2022, ensures the story of their sacrifice reaches every generation.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined the national leaders in paying respects, calling the martyrdom of the Sahibzades an ‘immortal saga of courage and devotion’ that guides patriotic and dutiful living.

Legacy, Martyrdom and National Observance of the Sahibzades

Veer Baal Diwas honours Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh, martyred at a tender age for defending their faith.

Mughal forces captured the young Sahibzades, born in Anandpur Sahib, along with their grandmother, Mata Gujri, during the historic Battle of Chamkaur in December 1705.

Despite repeated threats and coercion by Mughal authorities, the boys upheld their faith, and Mughal officials ultimately martyred them by sealing them alive in the Cold Tower of Sirhind.

Four prominent Sikh shrines mark the site of their martyrdom near Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib, which hosts a religious fair every year from December 25 to 28.

Nationwide, authorities observe Veer Baal Diwas and launch initiatives focusing on children’s welfare, including the ‘Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan’, which strengthens nutrition services and encourages community participation.

Through these commemorations, the sacrifice of the Sahibzades continues to inspire courage, righteousness, and devotion, leaving an enduring impact on India’s historical and cultural memory.
