Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and incumbent Member of Parliament from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi, appeared in Sultanpur on Thursday. His presence marked a significant event in the political landscape.
The occasion marked his first rally of this election season. He aims to bolster support for his mother, Maneka Gandhi, who is contesting from the Sultanpur constituency.
Addressing a fervent crowd at the rally, Varun Gandhi emphasized the unique reverence Sultanpur residents hold for his mother.
He stated, “There is only one region in the country where people don’t call their MP by her designation or name, but address her as ‘Mata Ji’, and that is Sultanpur.”

This public appearance by Varun Gandhi comes amidst a period of relative seclusion from the political limelight. The BJP replaced him with Jitin Prasada to contest from Pilibhit, which underwent polling in the initial phase of the elections.
Previously representing Sultanpur and then swapping the seat with his mother in 2019, Varun Gandhi expressed a profound connection to the constituency.
He affirmed, “Because of my father Sanjay Gandhi, till now I considered Sultanpur as my fatherland, from today Sultanpur is my motherland too.”
Despite the familial ties and his mother’s candidacy, Varun Gandhi adopted an inclusive stance. He declared no enmity towards opposition candidates and assured equal support to all constituents in times of need.
In a notable departure from the convention, Varun Gandhi refrained from mentioning the BJP leadership during his address. Instead, he focused on the significance of Sultanpur’s name being recognized on a national scale.
Moreover, he extended a personal touch by sharing his mobile number with attendees, signaling an approachable demeanor toward the electorate.
As campaigning for the sixth phase reaches its culmination, Maneka Gandhi faces a competitive electoral landscape. She is contesting against:
- Ram Bhual Nishad – Samajwadi Party (SP)
- Udraj Varma – Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)
Varun Gandhi’s presence in Sultanpur not only amplifies the BJP’s campaign efforts but also underscores the enduring familial legacy in Indian politics, as the electorate awaits the outcome of this significant electoral battle.
